Leapin out of February

Happy Leap Day! It’s fun to get a bonus day in the year.

March is upon us! And at Science for Georgia – that means too many activities AND the final month of the Legislative Session. So many things, so little time.

Today is Feb 29th. Which is Leap Day. It is also Crossover Day in the Georgia General Assembly. Which means that if a bill does not get voted out of one chamber in order to cross over into the other chamber, it is effectively dead. And since this is year two of the legislative session, if a bill doesn’t crossover, it is done for.

And while that means some bills will need to be relooked at over the summer for a new life in 2025, there are some that are still working their way through the system. And they have until March 28th (Sine die) to get out of both chambers and onto the Governor’s desk.

Too many terms? Check out our Quick Guide to the Government.

We’ve been tracking some bills and evaluating them via our criteria. You can check them out here. Keep an eye on that page in the next month – as we will be adding new information.

If you’d like to be alerted to bills of interest that you can #SpeakUpForScience about – please join our catalyzer network. And we’ll send you some alerts over the next month.

In February we were proud that:

  • We provided some comments on HB 1338 that made the news!
  • We participated in two Days at the Capitol

And while all this March Madness is going on – we’ll have a second type (still not involving college basketball – but it does involve a final four) with our FOUR Atlanta Science Festival events:

We hope you’ll join us for some fun. If you’d like to volunteer for any of these events – please fill out the form here.

As for me? I’ll be at all these things – and probably watching basketball on my phone.
