Join WIB-Atlanta as we congratulate our 2022 DEI Grant Award Winner, Science for Georgia. Sci4Ga is a nonprofit dedicated to improving communication between scientists and the public, increasing public engagement with science, and advocating for the responsible use of science in public policy.
On February 17th at 1 p.m., our organizations will host a low-key, virtual table talk about making science more welcoming for all. Eat your lunch while Juliet Chin Hart inspires us, and then for dessert, break into discussion rooms. Each breakout room “table” will be responsible for getting to know each other and for picking one simple action that anyone can do in the next two months that can spread science and make it more diverse (i.e. give up single-use plastics, join a mentorship organization, plant a tree, vow to tell 4 strangers about science, write a letter to your congressperson, point out to your co-workers when they are being unkind, start a garden, go meatless for lunch, etc.). We will then report back and each of us vows to do one of the suggested ideas from the tables.
You never know who will be at your table, so join us to learn something new, to hear a new perspective, and to share your ideas! Sometime in the fall of 2022 – we’ll try to have these as several lunches around town (and at least one virtual room). And before each lunch, we’ll send an inspirational note and the list of “actions” from each table.
Juliet C. Hart specializes in developing the leadership capabilities of scientists and their organizations. She is the founder of Hart & Chin, a company that offers workshops, coaching, and consulting services.
She believes that strengthening the leadership and interpersonal skills of scientists will make them more effective leaders, who will have a larger impact and create greater value for the organizations they serve.
Previously working as a scientist and with scientists at Johnson & Johnson, she has seen the impact of her work drive employee engagement, increase collaboration, and stimulate innovation across functions.
She has lead trainings on developing leadership & management skills, cross-cultural awareness, presentation pitching, & communications skills.
Juliet established her expertise in learning and development through progressive roles within pharmaceutical giants such as Johnson & Johnson and Bristol-Myers Squibb. In addition, she has obtained management training from the Yale School of Management. She began her journey in drug discovery as a laboratory scientist at small to mid-sized biotech companies and at Janssen (J&J) in San Diego, CA.
Juliet earned her Bachelor’s degree from the City University of New York – Hunter College in psychology. There she conducted research in biopsychology as a National Institutes of Health – Scholar Fellow, published papers, contributed to the National Academy of Sciences, and presented at international conferences. As a native of Brooklyn, NY and working in the sciences, she has experienced the complexities of living and working in culturally diverse environments and relates her experiences in her work.
