What goes into making a high quality beer and why would a brewery need dedicated scientists to make it happen? Join this talk to learn about one of the original scientific endeavors and what the typical day of a brewing scientist covers. Discussions will also include information on why the brewing industry’s collaborative nature makes it incredibly unique and what new, exciting projects are being pursued by breweries across the world. Finally, participants will get a brief introduction on how to evaluate beer and assess beer quality themselves.

Join us with Daniel LePage, Director of Quality at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. for this informative talk on the science of brewing beer.

Daniel LePage earned a B.S. (Biochemistry) from the University of Tulsa and Ph.D. (Biological Sciences) from Vanderbilt University. His research background includes chemotherapeutics, insect development, phages, and novel uses for bacteria in disease suppression. He has worked in the brewing industry for over five years and currently heads the Quality Department at Creature Comforts Brewing Company, overseeing all things QA/QC at three different facilities. In his free time he enjoys long-distance hiking , running, and cooking strange and new recipes.
